A teeny, tiny dog rescue honouring a Mexican dog named Piña, who didn't make it to her forever home but in her memory & honour we help other dogs find their's.
We are a registered Canadian Not for Profit Organization that is 100% volunteer run.
How it all started
Piña Perro Dog Rescue was officially started in November 2021 after our founding members went on vacation to a cute little island in Mexico called Holbox. While on vacation they visited the local shelter, Refugio Animal Holbox, to volunteer and walk dogs. After spending the afternoon at the shelter they walked out heartbroken but also inspired by the Refugio’s selfless volunteers who have dedicated their lives to saving these wonderful Mexican street dogs! That day they vowed to help Refugio Animal Holbox find homes for their dogs!
Since our rescue's inception we have officially re-homed around 200 dogs (and a few cats), about half of those dogs from Mexico and the remainder from Alberta and BC.
Our teeny, tiny rescue is run by three volunteer dog lovers that are dedicated to making a life changing difference to every dog that comes into our care. We are committed to keeping the rescue small and manageable, not only to avoid the dreaded 'rescue burn-out' or because we have full-time jobs/commitments, but mostly because we want to offer our adopters a pleasant, thorough and comprehensive adoption experience.
We are devoted to making adoptions last a lifetime with the help of our "Foster to Adopt" program.
All of our adoptions are done this way to ensure the right fit for not only the dog but also for the adopters. Adoption fee is $650 which includes spay/neuter, up to date core vaccinations, micro chip & deworming. All our adoptions are done with a minimum two week trial to ensure the right fit for everyone. If things don’t work out, no questions asked, we will take the dog back.

Their story
HOW IT ALL BEGAN…
“One night, around 10 pm, a motorcycle stopped in front of my house and on it were two young men carrying a baby animal in their hands. At first, I thought it was a puppy, but when I saw the face mask, I realized it was a newborn raccoon; only a few days old …”
That night when I welcomed Venancio, I knew that I had to build a place to help every animal who needed it.
