Small in size but big in personality, Betty is a 25 (ish) lb Jack Russell/staffie cross (just a guess!) with a heart as full as her energy tank! This sweet, spirited girl loves nothing more than exploring the great outdoors with her people or snuggling up close to them on the sofa.

Betty’s Skills & Talents:
✨Knows all her commands: sit, stay, down, look, touch
✨Crate trained & treadmill trained for those winter days.
✨Loves puzzle toys, tug games, and fun training activities
✨Independent but also a world-class snuggler when it’s sofa time.

Betty can be reactive toward other dogs on leash, This is mostly leash frustration — she relaxes quickly when given space in an open area and can run freely on her rover leash. She has lived peacefully with other dogs before but is selective about her friends. For her happiest life, Betty’s ideal home is one where she is the only pet (no small animals or small children).
Although Betty does amazing with certain dogs, her wonderful family cannot get her and the deaf resident dog to get along. It’s not all Betty’s fault as the resident dog just cannot warm up to her. Betty does live happily with the third resident dog. Betty would do best as the only dog, but also with the right dog, she would flourish as well (preferably male and calm)
Betty is smart, sweet, goofy, loyal, and full of energy. Her only fault really is some reactivity on leash. It’s gotten so much better in the past year and seems to only be intermittent barking but does calm down quickly. We will provide more training in this area if needed.

JP was rescued from a large garbage dump in Mexico, where he was found with his mom and litter mates. He is the most timid of the bunch, often feeling frightened by rough movements and new situations. However, once you earn his trust, this gentle pup transforms into a sweet and playful companion.
He has a lot of energy and enjoys playing with other dogs, but can become scared in chaotic environments or when unfamiliar people arrive. Because of this, JP would thrive in a quiet home where he can gradually gain confidence and let his true, playful puppy spirit shine.

One look into Feliz’s soulful, honey-colored eyes is all it takes to fall head over paws in love.

Feliz is a loving, cuddly shepherd mix who spent the first 4 (ish) years of his life on the streets of a poor village in Guatemala. His foster mom crossed paths with him while on vacation and had no choice but to rescue him after hearing his heartbreaking cries when he lost sight of her. Feliz was desperate for a loving family and he returns the love he receives tenfold, not to mention he’s the best cuddler. Despite going through a lot of changes in the past few months, he’s settling into a nice routine and is incredibly smart and trainable. In fact, he graduated from a month-long intensive training school where he learned all his basic commands and walks like a dream on the leash.

Feliz will follow you around the house from room to room flopping down for a snooze while you do your thing. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear him let out a cute moan or groan every time he gets up to stretch. He’ll be your best friend, adventure buddy, and trusted protector. Inside he couldn’t be more mellow, he loves to nap and doesn’t have a single bad habit. Outside he really comes alive and is sporty— he’d make an excellent pet for someone who’s active and enjoys spending time outdoors. He’s been known to climb trees at the park with cat-like agility.

Feliz’s trainer described him as one of the most “special personalities” he’s seen in his 10 years of dog training. Part of that special quality is that he’s strong willed and dominant, so he’ll thrive with an experienced dog owner who will maintain his training and routine. He has strong foundational training and is food motivated/eager to please so it’s just about maintaining consistency. Although Feliz lives with another dog foster that he loves, he would do best in a home where he’s the only dog. He wants and deserves to be the center of your world.​

Meet Bruno, a 1.5 year (approx) mixed-breed male who is ready to find his forever home.
He started out as a stray puppy after being separated from his mother. As a puppy Bruno and his litter mates spent some time in foster homes but Bruno has mainly grown up at a shelter surrounded by love, his brothers, and other dogs. He’s a playful and affectionate pup with medium-high energy, perfect for an active and adventurous family who loves walking, hiking, and having fun outdoors.
Bruno adores the company of other dogs and would be thrilled to have a furry sibling to play with. He’s also great with children, as he has spent time with the shelter owner’s two beautiful kids. Plus, Bruno has even lived with cats and had no issues.

This little lady is always down to play, and is the fastest runner you will see! A home with a nice backyard for her to run in and explore is a must! Millie is also content to cuddle up for hours and sprawl out in the sun. Millie loves her people. She is loyal and full of affection. She naturally gravitates towards females, although with the right introductions and time she warms up to both males and females.

Although she can be a shy & timid gal, she needs time to warm up to new people and can be quite fearful of new people coming into her safe environments, she can be protective of her home and human people. Unfortunately, this has lead to a nip at other children who cannot read her body language of needing space. Although Millie loves her residence human siblings fiercely it will be best to have a home with no children.
We believe the right environment will make all the difference to her being successful and happy. With a loving, dog savvy family, a peaceful home with a yard to run, we believe this will allow Millie to decompress and her loving and fun personality will shine.

This playful pup is full of energy and happiness! Richie loves to run and play, but he also knows how to relax by your side. His leg, which underwent surgery, is healing well and allows him to live a nearly normal life. He currently thrives in a foster home with two small female dogs and a male Labrador, and we’ve seen that he gets along best with females.

With his short legs, goofy grin, and larger-than-life personality, Woody is the ultimate shelter clown. He’s friendly, affectionate, and downright hilarious—full of love and charm that he’s just dying to share with his very own person.
Woody adores people. He thrives on attention, loves visitors, and is especially fond of kids. Max arrived at @refugioanimalholbox in August 2021, when he was about three years old. He came in critical condition, found lying in the street and unable to move. Just when they thought they would have to say goodbye, he wagged his tail—a sign of his incredible will to live. With intensive and costly treatment, Max made a remarkable recovery.

Despite his challenging past, Max is a truly wonderful dog. He adores children, loves lounging in rooms with air conditioning 😆(we think he will LOVE Canada because he hates the heat in Mexico), and has a playful spirit that brings joy to everyone around him. He enjoys playing with some dogs, while with others, he prefers to keep his distance. Max has never shown any aggression; he may growl if he feels threatened, but his heart is filled with love and humor.

Max has a playful habit of chewing, so he’ll need a watchful eye to ensure he stays safe. After spending an astonishing 1,460 days at the shelter (and counting), Max truly needs a quiet retirement home where he can spend his golden years surrounded by love and care (and out of the heat!). Bonney arrived at the shelter in December 2022, after being rescued from the harsh streets of Cancun. She came in rough shape—suffering from TVT, ehrlichia, anaplasma, and severe skin issues. But despite it all, Bonney survived. She’s a quiet fighter with a soft heart.

Bonney is a shy girl who’s still learning to feel safe in the world. In the early mornings, you’ll see glimpses of her true self—she plays with the other dogs, runs with joy, and for a little while, forgets to be afraid. Then, like a gentle shadow, she retreats to her quiet corner. She doesn’t ask for much, but she deserves everything.

Life taught Bonney to be invisible—to survive by not being seen. But we know there’s so much more to her. Underneath the quiet exterior is a sweet, soulful dog waiting for someone to finally see her. She’s not broken—just waiting for the right home to help her heal.

Yin’s story began on a roadside in early February 2025, where she was found huddled next to her brother, Yang, by a community member. Thanks to his compassion, both pups were brought to the Solferino Refugio—and while Yang has since found his happily ever after in Canada, Yin is still waiting for hers.

Duque is a calm and affectionate older dog with a heart full of love. He adores going for walks and showering his humans with kisses—though be warned, his kisses can be a bit abrupt! It seems he’s making up for lost time, and he’s got plenty of affection to share. Duque loves to climb onto laps and cuddle, convinced he’s a tiny Chihuahua in a big dog’s body!

Nell’s story began in a large garbage dump in Kantunilkin, where she was rescued alongside two other puppies and two adult females—one of whom is likely her mom. Her start in life was rough, but Nell is holding onto hope for something better.

At first, Nell is timid—loud noises and fast movements can scare her, and she needs a little time to feel safe. But once she trusts you, her heart opens wide. She’s sweet, affectionate, and surprisingly agile—this girl can jump! She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats, and her gentle nature makes her a lovely companion for a calm, kind home.Nell is at the perfect age to grow into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. With the right environment—one filled with patience, reassurance, and love—she’s sure to blossom.
